Idol Girls Turn Up The Heat
It was a dramatic night on the Idol stage when the girls finally took their turn to wow America on the second week of Season 9. In an unprecedented move, the girls’ performances, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday, was switched with the boys’ schedule due to Idol hopeful Crystal Bowersox’s medical condition. Reports state that even up to the last few minutes prior to show time, Bowersox had still to get the green light to perform. Some criticized the move as unfair, especially since prior hopefuls Bo Bice, David Cook and Diana Degarmo were forced to perform despite being ill in their respective competitions.
Bowersox did not disappoint. Despite her illness, she gave an amazing performance with her rendition of “Long As I Can See the Light”. Her performance was made even more memorable as she strummed an acoustic guitar while singing soulfully. She received rave reviews from the judges. New judge, Ellen DeGeneres, acknowledged her “pure, raw, natural talent” and even the usually cynical judge Simon Cowell admitted that after the night’s show, the competition had a “serious artist” in Bowersox.
The other Idol girls also turned up the heat after a disappointing first week performance. Other great performances of the night were given by Siobhan Magnus and Lilly Scott. On the danger zone, however, with less than stellar performances were Haeley Vaugh, Lacey Brown and early favorite Didi Benami.
Tune in to Fox on Thursday, March 4, 8/7c to see which four contestants will be cut from American Idol.
